Windsurfing Mast

The windsurfing mast is a tall pole that can range in height but has a similar diameter. They are attached to the board with a connection that allows the mast to be angled in multiple directions as well as up and down. The mast is not stationary as it is in a sailboat, the movement allows for the board to be turned without a rudder.

A windsurfing mast can be made from a variety of materials. On the highest end the masts are made from carbon fiber for incredible lightness as well as strength. They also are covered with titanium for even more durability. They are slightly tapered with the bottom being much thicker than the usually needle point tip.

A windsurfing mast is the main piece besides the board and has the connections for the sail as well as the boom. A light mast is much easier to maneuver and lift out of the water so they are appealing to professionals and beginners alike. The difficult part is getting a light enough pole that is still sufficiently stiff.
